typoI wish I knew how to change my blog after it's been posted, but I don't and haven't had time to ask Marc. Anyway, just wanted to mention that I don't know what ling hours are, but Marc has probably done those too. I meant to say that his hours have been long. Maybe ling hours are those late night ones when he should be sLeepING.
The Muny
We really haven't done that much as a family this summer. Marc has been putting in ling hours at work and coming home tired. Bryan is now in summer school which also puts a damper on things. But on Saturday evening we went to the Muny together. The Muny is a summer outdoor theater in St. Louis. Every year when the schedule comes out we excitedly pick out the shows we want to go to. They do eight each year and we usually want to go to about six of them. But then the hot weather, or rain, or something else usually gets in the way. Since the plays don't start until dark, it makes for a very late evening and we are often too tired. We've gone before but left at intermission because Melody and Thomas were too tired to stay up any later. Anyway, last night we went to Godspell. It was short enough that we even stayed for the whole play. It was good. Here we are waiting in line for the free seats.
We then enjoy a picnic dinner while waiting for the play to start. This is tradition. It is very casual.
There are still three plays left this summer. Maybe we will make it to another one if the planets all line up…

A belated entryOops, I just realized that I skipped Marc's birthday in my blog entries. We really did celebrate, and on the very afternoon after I made my last entry. Marc's birthday was on the second and we celebrated by eating the requisite lasagna.
Marc's pile-o-presents was smaller than those the kids get, but he is much harder to shop for. This one was made of mostly paper, but not the green kind.
Marc usually tries to "read" what's inside the presents, and got one right this year (but only because I left the packing slip sitting on the table…
Then we ate ice cream. I guess I should have picked the brand of ice cream more carefully. Marc tried to be insulted, but he knows as well as I do that it is true.
Then he blew out the candles. We had to use big candles to represent ten years each. There's one little one in there somewhere.
And we all ate lots of ice cream. Happy belated birthday, Marc.
I think I forgot to post this because we made a quick trip to Colorado afterward. We went because Marc had the third off to celebrate Independence Day. We just went for the weekend to explore the Boulder area. We enjoyed seeing the mountains together and watched fireworks from the hotel jacuzzi, but it was a long drive.
Otherwise, we haven't done much in the month of July. Bryan started summer school so he can get another PE semester out of the way. He complains a lot about it, but it WAS his choice to go so I don't listen much to the whining. I've had a great time quilting and doing a few other projects with the kids. I hate how fast the summer is going. Melody, Thomas and I will go to California next week, just for a week. Then it will be time to think about getting ready for the start of school.

Photo walk prize winnersYesterday was so nice, that we decided to go to Laumeier sculpture park in St. Louis. I'd been wanting to see this place ever since we moved here, but had gotten a less than enthusiastic response from the kids. Anyway, the weather was nice, and since it is near where Marc works, I proposed that we meet him for a picnic dinner there. The kids and I took cameras and made a contest of it. Bryan insisted on a prize for the winner, but naturally the judge found that everyone took an equal number of prize winners, so we all shared the ice cream prize when we got home last night. Here are the prize winners for your viewing pleasure.(In no particular order)

Not Costa RicaWhile Bryan, Marc and I were in Costa Rica, Dad and Sheila came to visit and keep Melody and Thomas from getting in trouble. Near as we can tell, they all had a great time and consumed lots of sugar, stayed up til dawn…well, actually, we don't know all they did because it was "grandparent time" but they all seemed to come out of the experience unscathed (Dad and Sheila looked a little tired…
The weather was St. Louis at its worst- hot and humid- so it's amazing they did anything at all besides hiding in the basement. Anyway, they toured Old Town St. Charles.
Went to the zoo and petted stingrays.
Went to the science center, one of our favorite hangouts.
And when we got back, we took them to our favorite toxic waste site, and climbed to the highest spot in the county.
Thanks so much to you, Dad and Sheila, for taking such good care of Melody and Thomas so we could go on our trip. Sorry it was so hot while you were here. The weather cooled down right after you left and now it is beautiful. Want to come back?
